Viva Aloha Outrigger Race 2023

Presented by O Kalani Outrigger – Alameda, CA

On Saturday, May 6, 2023, O Kalani is bringing back Viva Aloha! This iron OC6 event will feature short and long courses on the Bay, just off of Alameda Island. Hang out after the races at O Kalani’s yard for Faction Brewing beer and light refreshments. Our two grills will be open if you would like to bring something to barbecue!

Club registrars, use the NCOCA registration site to register your crews by Wednesday, May 3, 11:59 PM.

Event Schedule

• 7:45 AM – Check-in open in O Kalani’s yard
• 8:30 AM – Welcome & Steerspersons Meeting
• 9:00 AM – Junior (19 and under) and Novice/Open Course (~4 mile) start together
• 10:00 AM – Women/Coed Long Course (~8 mile)
• 11:30 AM – Men Long Course (~8 mile)
• 12:30 PM and onwards – Hang out in O Kalani’s yard (open grill, free light refreshments, $10 for beer garden bracelet)

• Short Course (Men/Women/Coed)
  • Junior 19 and under (~4 mile) – Clubs to agree on UL or Spec use in advance via FB coaches thread
  • Novice (~4 mile) – Spec
  • Open (~4 mile) – Spec & UL
• Long Course (Men/Women/Coed)
  • Open – Spec & UL
  • Master (40, 50, & 60) – Spec & UL (note: age divisions with too few registrations to be combined with lower age division)

Awards

Awards to be distributed as follows:

• 5+ entries: 1st, 2nd, 3rd
• 3+ entries: 1st, 2nd
• <3 entries: category combined with lower age division (if available) OR 1st place only

Registration

$150/crew ($30/Junior crew). Registration to be opened via NCOCA.com registration portal by 4/26/2023. Registration closes Midnight 5/4/2023.

Safety

Bring your spray skirts, which may be required depending on conditions. You must have six PFDs and a tow rope in each canoe.

Tentative course maps to follow the week of event, and will depend on the weather forecast.

Event parking will be located at the nearby back lot. Navigate apps to W Hornet Ave & Skyhawk Street., Alameda, CA. Please don’t park in the Encinal Boat Ramp main lot.
